Finding My Way Through Fatigue
In my last few posts, I opened up about how fatigue—both mental and physical—has become a major factor in my life. Between caring for multiple people, maintaining homes and yards, and still trying to care for myself, I’ve found that this phase of life isn’t what I imagined. I’m sure many of you can relate to that feeling of exhaustion, especially when the demands of life seem to outpace the energy you have to give.
Several months ago, I developed a routine to help me relax, recharge and attempt to get quality rest and sleep to help me better cope with the daily demands in my life.
A Nightly Bath and Skincare Routine
One of the biggest game-changers for me has been establishing a nightly ritual that helps me wind down from the day. I’ve made it a point to take a relaxing bath every evening—a moment that feels like I’m washing away the stress of the day. It’s more than just a bath; it’s become my time to check in with myself and let my body relax.
Following my bath, I dive into my skincare routine. This not only gives me the opportunity to care for my skin, but it also feels like a form of self-care—something I do just for me. I use it as a time to breathe, reflect, and feel good about taking a small step toward my well-being.
Escaping Through Books and Audiobooks
Another way I combat mental fatigue is by losing myself in a good book. Some nights, I read; on others, I listen to audiobooks—both allow me to escape into a different world for a while. It’s something I look forward to at the end of the day, knowing I can let my mind wander and drift away from the day’s worries.
This ritual has been key in helping me wind down before bed and clear my head, offering a much-needed mental break that allows me to sleep better and wake up feeling more refreshed.
Resuming My Walks
Physical movement is something I know is crucial for my overall health and energy levels, but it’s been a struggle to stay consistent. I’ve resumed walking, though I’m still not quite where I want to be with it yet. The walks I do take are helping me feel more connected to my body and give me that sense of grounding I’ve been missing.
While I’m still building this habit back up, I’ve learned to be patient with myself. Progress isn’t always linear, and right now, I’m focusing on how good it feels to move, even if it’s just a short walk.
Movies
I enjoy watching old classic movies or a good rom-com to get lost in the moment and forget real-life for the moment.
Friends
Don't forget your friends. Find that special someone or friend group to have quality conversation or lunch at your favorite bistro. Go to a restaurant you've been wanting to try and head out for a quality meal where you are the one being served; and there is not kitchen clean-up afterward!
What works for you?
Be happy, healthy and safe!
I love these tips. I especially like to mix them, like getting lost on a walk (mentally) while lost in an audiobook!
ReplyDeleteYes!! I haven't listened to an audiobook on a walk....yet. Which type of books do you enjoy?
